Building an ideal homepage
For the past few months (or more) I’ve been building something I’d like to call “an ideal homepage“. Very hard task to do, but I’m sure I will come close to the idea with the project, sooner or later…
I even got “ideal” domain name for the project – naslovnice.com (this is a croatian plural for homepage/frontpage).
Idea with this project is to build a fast and easy to navigate website which offers a quick view to the latest news from other popular websites. I’m doing it via RSS, so I’m sort of a RSS aggregator.
The main difference between me and RSS aggregators is that I clearly imply the source I’m getting the text from, so I’d like visitors to immediately know where my content is coming from – from one of their most respected newspaper… I’m not here to be “smart” to say visitors which news are important for him, I let them choose their newspaper brand they are familiar with, show them excerpt and if they would like to read the whole story I link them to the original page.
This is how version 1.0 of this project currently looks like:

On my homepage, there is also one respectable brand the visitors are using on a daily basis and that’s the brand they trust – Google Search. So not just they can quickly navigate between their favorite newspapers but they can quicly search the Internet, and this is where I’m trying to be – at their web browser’s homepage !
I have a lot of great ideas for upgrading this project functionality, but I’m currently in the middle of a redesign, as for the past few months I got some valuable feedback from the visitors…
So, stay tuned and feel free to give me some ideas.
P.S. there is also a LinkedIn group you can join where you can give support for this project development – http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1929373
